Echos: Reflection on Structure, 2009
This body of work consists of eight pieces. Each work has a pair. The two paintings are placed side by side, reflecting each other psychologically as well as structurally. The one is on a rigid board that projects from the wall two inches and is heavily painted with encaustic that continues around the sides. Its companion, translucent and surrounded by air, is painted on handmade Japanese paper in watercolour. It is attached to metal poles that come out from the wall two inches.
As with a reflection on water, which mirrors the solid earth that surrounds, these works although not literal, are about a similar contrast. One painting, solid and strong echoing its partner so light and filled with movement.
